I’m Faizan, a Degree Apprenticeship Department Officer. I collect student feedback from different courses and reps, working with academic staff and the Guild to drive change that benefits everyone in your department.
Degree Apprenticeships
Apprentices told me that current newsletters are not useful. Both the Guild and Degree Apprenticeship Society have had limited engagement due to apprentices not checking their emails.
Since becoming a DA Department Officer, I have been writing my own monthly newsletters, focusing on topics that are relevant for apprentices, as well as any updates from me. I am working closely with the Centre for Degree Partnerships and the Student Comms team as they set up a new system which will allow them to target newsletters to specific communities of students.
Transitioning to targeted newsletters significantly reduces digital fatigue and anxiety for busy apprentices by clearing irrelevant clutter from their inboxes. This tailored approach makes them feel valued and "seen" as a distinct community, ensuring they no longer fear missing critical academic updates hidden among generic emails. Ultimately, it restores their trust in university communications, saves them valuable time, and fosters a stronger sense of belonging.
I am continuing to work with the University Student Communications team to help them create targeted emails for apprentices once their new system is setup. I will be adivising them on what is and isn't relevant for apprentices, and pointing them to the right contacts for information. We hope to have this setup for the new academic year.
Every win shared here began with feedback from students like you — and every change reflects the impact you’ve made on campus, your course, and your community.
